THE CONFERENCE
Iron Ore 2007 is a major international Conference organised to bring together managers, engineers, geoscientists, metallurgists and operators involved in all technical aspects of the iron ore industry from the host rocks to production and processing. It follows on from the very successful Iron Ore 2002 and 2005 Conferences held in Perth and provides an unparalleled opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the genesis, geology, exploration, mining and processing of iron ores, as well as new operations and environmental impact. The Conference is being jointly organised by The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, CSIRO Minerals and CSIRO Exploration and Mining.

THE THEME
The theme of Iron Ore 2007 is “Broadening the Base” created by the unprecedented expansion of the iron ore industry driven by the ongoing demand for raw materials by China’s iron and steel industry. To meet this demand, the iron ore industry is extracting more from its resources, processes and equipment and many new operations are both in production and under development. The main areas that will be covered by the Conference include:
· Exploration, which will include a wide range of topics such as ore genesis, geology, geochemistry, petrology and mineralogy from regional to mine scale.
· Ore characterisation and geostatistics, which will cover geophysical techniques, ore classification and mineralogical characterisation at regional, mine and ore body scale, as well as geostatistics for ore reserve estimation.
· Mining, which will include all aspects from pit design and optimisation to blasting and ore haulage.
· Processing, which will include crushing, screening and beneficiation, as well as downstream processing operations such as sintering and pelletising.
· Project development, which will include expansion of existing operations and development of new operations.
FIELD EXCURSIONS
A number of excursions and mine tours to the Pilbara and possibly the mid west region of West Australia will be organised for participants and accompanying guests before and/or after the Conference.
TRADE EXHIBITION
A Trade Exhibition will be held at the Conference venue. The exhibition will provide an excellent opportunity for companies to display their products and services to the participants.
THE VENUE
Iron Ore 2007 will be held at The Sheraton Hotel, Perth, Western Australia, the largest city on the west coast of Australia. Perth is renowned for its relaxed life style and marvelous beaches. The wineries of the Swan Valley close to Perth and the Margaret River area south of Perth are producing wines of excellent quality.
The climate in Perth in August is cool and the average temperature ranges between 8°C and 18°C.
