  Release time: 2018/09/19 13:46:00  Author:

Houston — Steelmaker Nucor resumed normal operations at all of its plants in North Carolina and South Carolina after Hurricane Florence made landfall Friday, a company spokeswoman said Monday.

"Last week, Nucor suspended operations at several facilities in the Carolinas in advance of Hurricane Florence in order to ensure the safety of our teammates and their families, as well as to comply with evacuation orders in areas where we operate," the spokeswoman said in an email.
"Fortunately, all of our teammates have been accounted for and are safe, and our facilities did not sustain major damage from the storm. The suspension of operations is not expected to impact customer orders," she said.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based steelmaker's main operations in the region include its sheet mill in Huger, South Carolina, bar mill in Darlington, South Carolina, and plate mill in Winton, North Carolina.

The Darlington facility has a combined capacity of 1.4 million st/year, the Huger complex has a hot-strip mill with a 2.3 million st/year capacity and the Winton plate mill has a capacity of 1 million st/year, according to the Association for Iron and Steel Technology.
